Only in St Kitts and Nevis... Two Caribbean Islands... One Paradise. Although from a tourism marketing standpoint this is an important attribute, there are other attributes that score much more points... such as the friendly people, the abundance of heritage and natural attractions, the fact that these two Caribbean islands are relatively undiscovered, the diversity of its beaches, the difference in appeals of the islands... I can go on and on, but before I do, allow me to tell you briefly what the islands are not.
St Kitts and Nevis are not mass market destinations... in fact, that will certainly not be in our best interests. Being relatively undiscovered and unknown brings a lot of appeal, since, you are never quite sure what secret you will discover. That is why so many people who have discovered St. Kitts and Nevis, can't seem to get enough of them... Yep... Many of them keep coming back again and again to their secret Caribbean islands, St. Kitts and Nevis, the twin Caribbean island paradise.
Moving right along, the islands are not overcrowded. With a combined population of about 46,000 St Kitts and Nevis are far from being overcrowded Caribbean islands. There are some times of the year however, when downtown Basseterre bustles with activity as the tourists who disembark from the cruise ships docked at Port Zante, explore our historic town. The sites of our natural and heritage attractions and restaurants would also receive more tourist traffic than usual on these days, but that's about it.
With that said, the questions is then why St Kitts and Nevis?... why not some other Caribbean island?... Here are some of the reasons why...
La Valle Estate Ruins
Culture and Heritage - The Caribbean islands are blessed with a rich culture and heritage, and St Kitts and Nevis are no exception. And when it comes to cultural and heritage attractions, St Kitts and Nevis boasts an abundance of these. In fact, an inventory of heritage sites and complexes included in the 1993 OAS Tourism Master Plan for St Kitts and Nevis documents about 250 such sites. A number of these sites have been developed as heritage and cultural attractions, but many of them are relatively unexploited and undeveloped. There are many buildings and sites that are rich in historical architecture as evidenced by the remains of the plantation great houses, sugar mills and chimneys, forts in both St Kitts and Nevis, and the colonial style architecture of the buildings in Basseterre and Charlestown.
Black Rocks
Natural Attractions - When it comes to natural beauty, the islands of St Kitts and Nevis are among the most beautiful of all the Caribbean islands. Between them, St Kitts and Nevis boast some of finest combination of natural attractions in the Caribbean. These are also comprehensively documented in the 1993 OAS Tourism Master Plan for St Kitts and Nevis. The landscape in St. Kitts and Nevis is compelling and unspoilt to say the least, with fields of swaying sugar cane in St. Kitts, and tropical rainforests, mountains, rolling hills, valleys and plains in different shades of green. An area with a particularly distinctive landscape is the Southeast Peninsula in St. Kitts, known for it's beautiful beaches, salt ponds and scenic vistas. The coastline is comprised of a combination of golden and black/grey sand beaches, rocks and cliffs. To complete the landscape, the islands are surrounded by the sea, which is turquoise in some areas and deep blue in other areas.
Black Sand Beach
Diversity - The product offering of these two Caribbean islands presents quite a diverse experience. The appeals of the two islands, though different, combine to give that unique "two islands, one paradise" experience. Then there is the diversity of the beaches... some have golden sand, others have black/grey sand, some are on the Caribbean or Leeward coast while yet others are located on the Atlantic or windward coast. The available accommodations also offer a diverse choice, from upscale resorts, historic plantation inns and luxury villas to middle market hotel rooms, beach front condominiums, bed and breakfast and guest houses. The result... there's something for everyone.
Need I say more? I don't' think so... In my estimation. the above paragraphs aptly sum up the answer to the question why St Kitts and Nevis. So now the choice is all yours. Will you choose the Caribbean islands of St Kitts and Nevis for your next Caribbean vacation? Remember, If you do, you will have the opportunity to experience paradise in St Kitts and Nevis, our two Caribbean islands.
