Should I try St Kitts Nevis adventures this time? What Nevis and St Kitts shore excursions are available?

So you are considering St. Kitts and Nevis as your next family vacation destination? Or perhaps you will be cruising into St Kitts on one of the cruise liners. Then you must be wondering what adventures St Kitts and Nevis can offer. Although I know you'd want me the cut the chase and tell you about the "must do" St Kitts Nevis adventures, I believe it is only fair that I give you an overview of the choices that are available to you.

By now you probably know that mountain ranges dominate the central regions of both St Kitts and Nevis. So what's the big deal about this, and how does it relate to St Kitts Nevis adventures? Well, because of the topography, there are many mountains, hills, craters, rivers and valleys to explore on both St Kitts and Nevis.

These features of the natural landscape therefore provide exciting St Kitts Nevis adventures including hiking, rainforest tours and nature trail explorations. In St Kitts, the hike to the rim of Mt. Liamuiga (previously Mt. Misery), the dormant volcano, is a strenuous and challenging hike. I have not hiked to Mt. Liamuiga, however after reading Up Liamuiga — Climbing the Sleeping Giant of St Kitts, an article written by fellow St Kitts Nevis travel forum member Drew Vics a writer, artist and musician of New Jersey, I have since decided that this is definitely a hike that I want to go on pretty soon. Of course if you are looking for an even more challenging hike, then you'd definitely want to hike to Nevis Peak. I'm sure that you are wondering what happens if you are not a seasoned hiker or not up to the taking on those challenging hikes. Does this rule out your chance to experience the secret's of the rain forest in St Kitts and Nevis? Don't you worry, there are hikes/walks in the rain forest for you too. There are moderate hiking adventures that will allow you to explore the interior and admire the flora and fauna of our lush tropical rainforests. As a matter of fact, Poinciana Tours offers tours for the seasoned hiker and if you are not up to hiking you can try their eco-safari tour which is a driven tour. And if you prefer not to hike but still want to see what we have to offer off the beaten track, that's no problem. In fact there are St Kitts Nevis adventures including a St Kitts Quad Bike tour (a self-driving safari) and a Sugar Plantation tour, that will take you on off-road driving tours and still allow you to see the rain forest. If you prefer you can also do it on horseback or by donkey ;).

But hiking tours such as volcano and St Kitts rainforest tours are not the only adventures on offer. A variety of water-based tours, both above and below the surface, are also available. Snorkelling, snuba and scuba diving are three underwater-based St Kitts Nevis adventures that you may find fascinating. However, if you are not ready to take the plunge into the underwater world, deep sea fishing, body surfing, windsurfing, jet skiing and ocean kayaking are other adventures you may wish to consider. On the other hand you can decide just to take a pleasure cruise during the day or even a sunset cruise and enjoy the peace and tranquility while sailing off St Kitts and Nevis. Private charter cruises to the neighbouring islands of Antigua, St. Eustatius, St. Barths, Saba and St. Maarten are also available.

The catamaran party cruises are exciting cruises that you will definitely enjoy. These cruises offer snorkelling, private charters and sunset cruises. Most of the catamaran party cruises head over to a beach in Nevis, where they dock right up to the palm lined shore, fire up a grill and set up a bar right on the beach for a terrific beach barbeque party. Of course, in addition to partying, you are free to enjoy swimming in the calm waters or you can just chill out and relax on the beach. After a great time partying on the beach, brace yourself for the trip back because the party continues on the return sail to St. Kitts.

Other St. Kitts Nevis adventures include playing golf, bird watching and visiting heritage attractions and historic sites, (Side note - There are some 250 plus heritage sites in St Kitts and Nevis, some developed but many others that are not). Taxi tours of St Kitts and Nevis take in some of the more popular heritage sites and attractions. There is also the Bob and Elvis Party Bus, a fun filled and party way to explore St. Kitts.

Off island adventures to neighbouring islands including St. Maarten, St Barths and St Eustatius are also available from St Kitts. These adventures include day trips via air or by boat. In fact, a number of boat operators in St Kitts and Nevis offer chartered day trips to the islands. The St Kitts and Nevis ferries also operate special trips to St Maarten and St Eustatius. These are usually shopping trips that many of the locals take advantage of... but I see no reason why visitors can't take advantage of these opportunities to visit the neighbouring islands.
