St Kitts Trip Review

Apart from problems with US Airways (thanks Liz for the heads-up!!) on the way there and back, the trip was FANTASTIC! The island is beautiful, the locals so friendly, and the ambience was amazing!

We stayed at the Marriott, and thought it was gorgeous. We had a beautiful room, in one of the villas, and it was always kept clean. We ate breakfast there everyday ($18 US for the buffet, or $14 US for the "healthy buffet") but it was worth it for the convenience. Plus the view from Blu (we ate on the patio) was breathtaking!! We didn't eat at any other Marriott restaurants, choosing to go into town each night.

We tried both the Atlantic beach, and the Caribbean beach by Timothy Beach Resort, and even though the Atlantic side was wavier, we preferred it since it was a bit quieter, and much less crowded than the Caribbean side. Plus we didn't have to pay for beach chairs We ate at the Monkey Bar once for lunch, and had the Pool BBQ at the Marriott once or twice.

We visited Turtle Beach and saw Wilbur the pig and the monkeys! It was amazing how friendly they are! They jump right up on to you!!

One of our favorite experiences was meeting Amicia and Grace at Bucky's Beach bar! This bar is right on the ocean, and our table was actually in the sand!! The food was amazing and the drinks (I have no idea what they were) were fantastic!! It was exactly the kind of experience we were hoping for on our trip.

We took the ferry over to Nevis one day, and spent the afternoon at Sunshine's and Pinneys Beach with several Killer Bees. They were yummy as was the food we ordered (shrimp and chicken). I wish we would have had more time to explore on Nevis, instead we just rested on the beach!!!

Our number one favorite experience was our private sunset boat cruise which Amicia helped set up!! The scenery was absolutely gorgeous, and the boat crew were so friendly and helpful. They provided snacks, cheesecake and wine, while we sailed around the island. We spent one day driving around the island with a friend who lives there, so it was really neat to see the same places, but from the ocean!!

We also visited Sprat Net with our friend who lives there and met some of the other locals, and had an amazing meal of ribs and johnnycakes!!

We ate at Stonewalls which was probably my favorite restaurant (the decor is so cool - it's open air!!) and Marshalls, which was good too. I wasn't as impressed with the food at Marshalls, but the service was the best we had on the island....from the greeter at the door to our somellier, to the server!! It was truly a fine dining experience!! The service everywhere else was slow as people mentioned, however we were on vacation, and didn't mind the slow pace at all. It just gave us an excuse to have another Carib, or my new favorite, Brinley's Vanilla Rum and soda!!

I wasn't really able to find any unique souvenirs to bring home. I bought some pottery, but apart from that I was disappointed in the jewellery and other souvenirs. But that was my only complaint about the island!!

This island was truly a wonderful experience. We always felt safe (we wandered around in town at night regularly and never felt uncomfortable!!) and we enjoyed the fact that our taxi driver from the first night spent most of the week driving us around! We would just call him and tell him where we were and he would come get us!
